Indonesia Earthquake: 5-5 magnitude earthquake in Tobelo, no casualties reported

Jakarta: The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale occurred 162 km northwest of Tobelo in Indonesia on Monday. The earthquake occurred at 23:47:34 (UTC+05:30) and the epicenter was located at 2.881 N and 127.100 E, respectively. According to USGS the depth was found to be 12 km. No casualty has been reported so far. Specifically, Tobelo is a city and a district on the eastern Indonesian island of Halmahera.

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia in the early hours of January 16. The US Geological Survey said in an update on its website that the quake occurred 40 kilometers southeast of the Indonesian city of Singkil.

The earthquake was recorded at 03:59:58 (local time) at a depth of 37 km. Indonesia is a country located in Southeast Asia and Oceania between the Indian and Pacific oceans. It includes more than 17,000 islands.
