Jagdeep Dhankhar says those who undermine the country’s achievements should be held ‘accountable’

Hitting out at “some people” who have “orchestrated” India’s “mind-blowing achievements” for undermining, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday called on Indian industry leaders to rebuke such opponents and hold them “accountable”. Urged to take the initiative as they are ‘well positioned’ to show ‘these people in their place’.

The media, whose ‘high-decibel’ coverage despite being ‘completely disconnected from the spirit of the country and the ground reality’, adds to the problem and should ‘look inside’ as the fourth pillar of democracy, Mr Dhankhar said.

Emphasizing that India’s astonishing success has long plagued him by ‘very few’ people who are ‘allergic’, the Vice President said he continues to see ‘holes’ with industry and governance.

“They never think of appreciating and enjoying the fact that India is growing like never before. I find it completely irrational and difficult that these people are undermining our mind-boggling achievements – the achievements of industry, our agricultural sector, our workers, our youth. Why are they doing this?” he asked in an address to the PHD Chamber of Commerce of Industry, adding that its members play a leading role in combating this phenomenon.

“Their answer must come from the people who are strongly the builders of this ecosystem – the leaders of industry and business. You have played a major role in making India what it is today. If your efforts are so undermined, not recognized and by those who have no connection with either the development story or the ground realities, then who is to be turned down … the challenge (and) … I have no doubt that the people here have to take the initiative, Mr Dhankhar insisted.

“All of you are here individually and collectively, in a position to show these people their place. Look at your hard work, the great ecosystem you have created,” he said. The Vice President said that the idea of vaccinating 1.3 billion people against COVID-19 twice would ‘shake us’, but it has been done in India.

“Reflect back – who created the barriers? Who created the climate of mistrust? Who created that this would not result in affirmative action? Those people need to be held accountable and there can be no greater accountability than social accountability. By your own peers There can be no greater accountability than accountability,” Mr Dhankhar said, urging the industry to ‘get a little out’ from their business commitments to do so.

“If India has fed 80 crore people during the pandemic and continues to do so, it could not have been done without the efforts of the farmer, wage earner Activist and business leader. You kept the chain going in the toughest of conditions. How can we continue to let someone down on you?” Mr Dhankhar asked.

Arguing that no one knows India’s growing clout on the world stage better than industry leaders, the Vice President said: “When you move out of this country and into another, you know that India and Indians There is an increased respect for the Indian passport. There is a different kind of respect and credibility in the Indian passport. We are a nation that is no longer bound by what others say.”

Although the government’s measures in recent years have helped, Mr Dhankhar said future policies will have an even greater impact on India’s situation. “What has happened so far is remarkable, glorious and unimaginable. But now what happens after every year, it will make us realize that we are moving towards achieving our age old position of being a leader in every walk of life on a global scale.
