“Inflation at manageable level”, says finance minister

Nirmala Sitharaman said that we are in the era of strong economic activities.

New Delhi:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that inflation is at a manageable level.

His remarks come a day after the RBI hiked the interest rate by 50 basis points to check inflation.

“Inflation is at a manageable level,” she said here.

On Friday, the RBI retained its inflation forecast for FY13 at 6.7 per cent and expected inflation to remain under control from January onwards amid geopolitical concerns arising out of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The central bank is mandated to keep retail inflation in the 2-6 per cent band. Inflation has remained above the RBI’s upper tolerance level of 6 per cent since January 2022.

Inflation reached 7 per cent last month.

Speaking at the annual day celebrations of regulator IBBI, Ms Sitharaman, who is also the Minister for Corporate Affairs, said: “We are in an era of strong economic activity”.
