Instagram is removing the recent tab for some users as part of its trial

Meta-owned photo-sharing platform Instagram said it is testing recent and topical content in the ‘Top’ and ‘Reels’ tabs in hashtags and removing the ‘Recent’ tab.

TechCrunch reported on Tuesday that the photo-sharing platform said in a tweet that it is removing the ‘Recent’ tab on hashtag pages for some users as part of a small test.

“For a smaller group, we’re testing recent and timely content in the ‘Top’ and ‘Reels’ tabs in hashtags, and removing the ‘Recent’ tab. We’d like to see if this helps.” Helping people engage with more interesting and relevant content on hashtags, while also helping to keep them engaged with what’s existing,” the company wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Currently, when users select a hashtag, they are taken to a page where they can parse through content that is posted using that hashtag through three categories – Top, Recent and Reels. has been done.

With this change, some users will now see only ‘Top’ and ‘Reels’ tabs on hashtag pages, the report said.

There’s also a “Spread the Word” button that lets users share the hashtag page with their friends via direct message (DM).

The company said the feature also makes it easier to raise awareness for these causes through a “create a fundraiser” button that can be used to raise money on behalf of a cause.

Recently, Instagram expanded the ability to add product tags to feed posts to everyone in the US.

Earlier this feature was available only for creators and brands and now it is available for all users with a public account in the US.
