Inter-Department Hockey: PSPB, Railways, PNB and SAI reach semi-finals

Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) entered the semi-finals of the first Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National on Sunday. Championships with hard-won wins here.

PSPB, RSPB and PNB won in regulation time as the quarter-finals staged intense matches, while SAI drew 3-3 at the end of 60 minutes in a shoot-out with the Service Sports Promotion Board (SSPB) .

The first match of the day saw an exciting contest between the Services Sports Control Board and the Sports Authority of India. Selvaraj Kanagaraj scored in the third minute of the first quarter, but captain Jugraj Singh quickly found a level playing field for his team in the 5th minute. Pawan Rajbhar scored the second goal in the 7th minute to give the Service Sports Control Board the lead. Both the teams defended well till half time, after which Mohit Kumar scored the equalizing goal for his team in the 36th minute. Manjeet put his team forward again in the 40th minute, scoring the third goal for the Service Sports Control Board. But Rimanshu equalized in the 58th minute and pushed the match towards a shoot-out. Sports Authority of India entered the semi-finals after winning the match 3-3 – 4-2 in a shoot-out.

In the second match of the day, Punjab National Bank faced the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) central hockey team. Gursimran Singh scored the first goal in the 15th minute. PNB had an excellent second quarter as Sukhjit Singh scored his second goal in the 19th minute and the third goal in the 22nd minute. Banamali Zes scored the fourth goal for his team in the 25th minute. ITBP Central Hockey team defended well in the third quarter but Satpal Singh added his fifth goal in the 54th minute as PNB won the match 5-0.

In the third match of the day, the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) took on the Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board. Veteran hockey star Amit Rohidas scored in the third minute of the match to give his team a 1-0 lead. But Vikas Chaudhary managed to equalize in the 17th minute of the match. Harsahib Singh scored the second goal for the Railways in the 39th minute and Ajit Kumar Pandey scored the third goal in the 51st minute despite the Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board defending well in the match. RSPB defeated Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board 3-1.

Punjab & Sind Bank faced PSPB in the final match of the day. Both the teams started well and Prabhjot Singh scored the first goal of the match in the 11th minute but Sunil Yadav equalized in the 15th minute. The second goal of the match was scored by Abharan Sudev B in the 38th minute to give his team a 2-1 lead. But Prabhjot Singh equalized in the 55th minute to level it 2-2. Sunil Yadav scored the deciding goal in the 59th minute as Petroleum Sports Promotion Board beat Punjab & Sind Bank 3-2 to enter the semi-finals.
