iPhone Battery Cells In India To Be Produced By Japan’s TDK Corp – News18

Several 1000 new jobs will be created and increase in domestic value addition

Rajeev Chandrasekhar confirmed that TDK will set up a manufacturing facility in the northern state of Haryana.

TDK Corp, a Japanese electronic parts manufacturer, will produce lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery cells for Apple iPhones in India.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Deputy Minister for Information Technology, took to micro-blogging platform X (Formerly known as Twitter) and confirmed that TDK will set up a manufacturing facility in the northern state of Haryana, creating several thousand new jobs.

“Another big win for PM @narendramodi ji’s visionary PLI scheme in shifting the mobile manufacturing ecosystem to India. TDK, a leading supplier of cells to Apple, is setting up a 180-acre facility in Manesar, Haryana to build cells for batteries which will be used in the #MadeInIndia iPhones.

According to Reuters, Apple has been touting India as its next big growth driver as it looks to move some production away from China. It began assembling iPhones in the country in 2017 through Wistron and later Foxconn, and has a total of 14 suppliers in India.

Recently,  Indian Government also confirmed that Tata Group will start making Apple iPhones in India to be exported to global markets across the world within a span of two and a half years.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar,  lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PLI scheme and said, “within just two and a half years, Tata Companies will now start making iPhones from India for domestic and global markets.”

“Congratulations to the Tata team for taking over Wistron operations,” he added.

In addition, Chandrasekhar assured that the Indian government stands “fully in support of the growth of Global Indian Electronics companies that will, in turn, support global Electronic brands that want to make India their trusted manufacturing and talent partner, and to realize PM’s goal of making India a global electronics power.”
