Mumbai: Upcoming IPL matches amid COVID-hit Delhi Capitals And Punjab Kings The Rishabh Pant-led team was shifted from Pune to Mumbai on Tuesday following the virus outbreak.
In a statement, BCCI said Wednesday’s game has been moved to Brabourne Stadium to ensure that there is no COVID infection in the bio-bubble.
Five members of Delhi Capitals including Australian all-rounder Michelle Marshaw Has tested positive for the virus.
Physio Patrick Farhart, Sports Massage Therapist Chetan Kumar, Team Doctor Abhijeet Salvik And Akash Mane, a member of the social media content team, has also had the infection.
“The control board for cricket India announced the change of venue for match number 32 on Tuesday – Delhi Capitals vs. Punjab from kings MCA StadiumPune to Brabourne – CCI is scheduled on 20th April, 2022, to avoid any incident due to any unknown case during long distance bus travel in closed environment,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Delhi Capitals will get permission to play the match only after the RTPCR test on Wednesday morning. All other players and support staff have tested negative on Tuesday.
“The COVID positive cases are under isolation and medical observation. They will be tested on day 6 and 7 and will be re-integrated into the Delhi Capitals bio-secure bubble if both test negative.”
“Since April 16, the entire Delhi Capitals contingent has been put under a daily RT-PCR testing process. The fourth round of RT-PCR tests conducted on April 19 has come back negative.
“The Delhi Capitals contingent will undergo another round of RT-PCR testing on the morning of April 20,” the BCCI said.
Delhi Capitals’ opponents Punjab Kings were to travel to Pune on Tuesday but were asked to stay back in Mumbai.
“We were supposed to travel to Pune, but we have been asked to stay back in Mumbai,” a Punjab team official told PTI.
The virus threatened to derail the IPL again on Monday after Marsh tested positive.
He had two RT-PCR tests, in which the first came negative, but later the test came back positive. Marsh did this after complaining of a sore throat and mild fever.
The Australian all-rounder is understood to have shown some symptoms and a rapid antigen test was done which came back positive.
This could be due to the fact that he was undergoing rehab under physio Farhart, who tested positive last week.
The players have been in quarantine since Monday.
With COVID cases rising outside the IPL bio-bubble, the risk of the virus inside a controlled environment has also increased.
Last season, the tournament had to be postponed midway due to a second wave. It was restarted in the UAE and completed in September-October.
