“They have struggled a bit, we have given them the freedom to play their natural game. I haven’t spoken to him till date, but will talk to him soon.

Mumbai have lost eight games in a row and are on course for one of the most gruesome campaigns in the history of the Indian Premier League if things continue like this. Mumbai spent Rs 15.25 crore to acquire Ishan Kishan’s services. However, after performing well in the first two matches of the tournament, Kishan’s form declined, putting Mumbai in a deep pit.

Jayawardene did not isolate Kishan for the failures and addressed the performance of the entire batting unit as a whole, saying his performance needed to be reviewed.

He said, ‘I need to review the performance of the batsmen. This has been a concern so far but this is a senior group so we need to keep moving forward. We want to keep the batting unit as consistent as possible, Jayawardene said.

The head coach’s remarks came after Mumbai’s defeat against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, April 24, where LSG completed a double over MI in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League.

In the game, KL Rahul scored another scintillating century, making it his second century against Mumbai this season. He has become the second player after Virat Kohli to achieve this feat in the history of the tournament.
