IPL 2023 DC Vs SRH: Akshar Patel saved the Capitals, Sunrisers fell by 7 runs

The David Warner-led Delhi Capitals on Sunday registered their second consecutive win in the Tata IPL 2023 season as they defeated Sunrisers by 7 runs in Hyderabad.

It was a do or die situation for both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals playing their seventh match in the 16th season of the Indian Premier League at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 22.

Against Sunrisers, Delhi Capitals captain David Warner won the toss and decided to bat first. He is the first captain to open the batting in Hyderabad in IPL 2023.

Perhaps, citing the pitch report, which calls Hyderabad a high-scoring track, Warner took the decision. But when the Sunrisers captain was asked what he would have done, Aiden Markram said that Sunrisers wanted to bowl first anyway.

DC shift:

Opening the innings in Hyderabad, the Delhi Capitals batting line-up showed the same disappointing start and got off to a troubled start. Opener Philip Salt went back for a golden duck as SRH’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar showed him the way to the pavilion in the very first over.

Thereafter, DC skipper David Warner and Mitchell Marsh tried to build a partnership but Marsh was dismissed in the 5th over by SRH pacer T Natarajan, who had scored 25 off 15 balls.

After the powerplay, Warner looked to pace the game, Washington Sundar joined the party and dismissed David Warner for 21 in the 8th over.

Thereafter, DC sent in Sarfaraz Khan (10) to score some good runs to set up a respectable score for the opponents but was sent back by Washington Sundar in the 8th over. In the same over, Sundar took another wicket of Aman Khan (4). But at the end of 8 overs, DC’s score was 62/5.

Understanding the situation, Pandey and Akshar took over the game and stitched a partnership. When DC looked set to post a good score, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Patel (34) in the 18th over. Soon the batting order was said to collapse again, as Pandey was run out by Washington Sundar. By the end of 20 overs, Warner-led Delhi Capitals were able to score 144 runs losing 9 wickets. SRH now need 145 runs to chase at 7.25 rpo.

After a disastrous start, DC sent Manish Pandey and Axar Patel into the bat. By the time 10 overs were over, DC somehow managed to manage 72 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

For SRH, Washington Sundar took 3 wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 2 and T Natarajan took one.

SRH innings:

Chasing the target of 145 runs set by Delhi Capitals, the Sunrisers batting line-up also got off to a strong start. Opener Harry Brook (7) was shown the way to the pavilion by Enrich Nortje in the 6th over.

However, Mayank Agarwal stayed on the pitch and tried to maintain the momentum of the game. Sunrisers, on the other hand, lost quick wickets as the Capitals’ bowling attack made the batting difficult for the home side.

Rahul Tripathi (15) was caught by Ishant Sharma in the 13th over, Abhishek Sharma (5) was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav in the 14th over and Akshar Patel dismissed captain Aiden Markram (3). Earlier, Patel also showed the path of pavilion to set batsman Mayank Agarwal (49) in the 12th over.

However, Heinrich Klaasen and Washington Sundar took the responsibility on their shoulders and stitched a crucial partnership for Sunrisers. But, Heinrich Klaasen (31) lost his wicket to Enrich Nortje in the 19th over. By the end of 20 overs, the Sunrisers batsmen could manage only 137 runs losing 6 wickets and lost to the Capitals by 7 runs.

Enrich Nortje and Akshar Patel took two wickets each for the Capitals, while Ishant Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.

With this win, Delhi Capitals equalized their tally with Sunrisers Hyderabad on the IPL points table. Now both the teams – SRH and DC – have 4 points each having played 7 matches, won 2 and lost 5. However, SRH’s net runrate is still higher than DC’s, due to which DC is still at the bottom. Mark sheet.
