Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, close to Iran’s powerful revolutionary guardsaid the Taliban opened fire on homes located on the eastern edge of the county mourningAcross the border from the Nimruz province of Afghanistan.
The report also said that Taliban forces tried to hoist the Taliban flag in an area that is not part of Afghanistan’s territory and peace returned after the exchanges.
There have been repeated clashes between Iranian security forces and Afghan Taliban forces at various locations along the border since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan last August. Exchanges of fire often take place over local issues such as disputes over farmland, water or smuggling, and usually end quickly.
In some of the fiercest conflicts, last December, the Afghan Taliban captured several outposts on the Iranian side but soon withdrew, and both sides called the incident a “misunderstanding”.
