Five JD(U) MLAs in Manipur on Friday joined the ruling BJP. The JD(U) had won six out of 38 seats in the assembly elections held in March.

Chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar Expressed displeasure over JD(U) MLAs joining the BJP in Manipur on Saturday. Speaking to reporters at the party office here, where the two-day national convention is underway, Kumar questioned the justification and constitutionality of the alleged poaching by his former colleague.

He said the party’s Manipur MLAs had confirmed their presence at the meeting, and had earlier supported the JD(U)’s decision to quit the NDA. “When we were in NDA, they (BJP) did not give anything to our MLAs. Now they have been won,” said Kumar, in what appears to be a reference to horse trading.

“Is it fair? Is it constitutional? Is it in line with established norms? They are doing this everywhere. So all parties should unite in 2024 for a positive mandate,” the JD(U) leader said, who is being pitched for a “national” role by his party. Asked if he would visit Delhi in the next few days to meet top leaders and explore possibilities of opposition unity, Kumar replied in the affirmative. , but did not give details.
