It was about the Highlanders in the early exchanges, except for an Aridai Suarez curler who went out skimming the crossbar. Brown was at it again as he tried to dance in front of some Odisha defenders after goalkeeper Mirshad Michu found him with a length ball, only to avert a threat to the home side.

Five minutes into halftime, the brilliant Brown left the Odisha defenders with a brilliant run in the box, but his effort was off target as he took a touch too high. In the second period, Odisha missed a golden opportunity to draw first blood when Javier Hernández headed towards the target after being fed by a Sundar through Aridai’s ball.

Frenchman Mathias Courour then failed to make the most of a free header, nodding wide from close range. The deadlock was finally broken in the 81st minute when two substitutes Thoiba Singh and Jonathan combined for a well-drilled goal.

Thoiba, who came in in the 62nd minute in place of Isaac Chhachuaq, did well to cross for Jonathan, whose drop header left the diving Mirshad without a chance. Liridon Krasniki replaced Jonathan in the 62nd minute. In dying exchanges, NorthEast tried hard to pull levels but Odisha kept them at bay and ensured that they continue their good run.
