Slavko Damjanovic and Dimitri Petratos helped ATK Mohun Bagan beat East Bengal FC 2-0 in the Indian Super League.
ATK Mohun Bagan defeated East Bengal 2-0 in the Indian Super League (ISL) match played at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. Slavko Damjanovic and Dimitri Petratos scored goals to help ATKMB finish third on the Indian Super League points table, their eighth straight Kolkata derby in all competitions.
The ATKMB was on the attack from the outset as the EBFC grappled with the prospect of an immediate bombardment. In the fifth minute, Pritam Kotal fired his shot over the post as Dimitri Petratos’ corner pinged around the penalty box and headed to him at the far post.

The Mariners were under pressure in the 12th minute when Jerry Lalrinzuala brought down Federico Gallego on the edge of the penalty box but play continued. Seconds later, Lalchungnunga illegally brought down Ashiq Kuruniyan. The referee couldn’t look away any longer and blew his whistle. Petratos’ effort, however, hit the bar.
East Bengal had a golden chance to score as Mobashir Rahman sent a piercing through ball for VP Suhair in the 17th minute after receiving the ball from the keeper. He went past Subhasish Bose but slipped at the crucial moment of his shot on goal.
The game was becoming more and more physical and the challenges were getting desperate by the minute.
In the 28th minute, Suhair slipped at Nourem Singh but his shot went over the bar. Barely five minutes later, Suhair’s volleyed cross was inches above Clayton Silva’s head.
In the counter-attack, Ashish Rai made his way down the right flank into the middle of the field and unleashed a ferocious shot that would have been a routine save for Kamaljit Singh’s goal. A deflection off Sarthak Golui made things difficult for the East Bengal keeper but he easily got behind the shot in the 34th.
The game heated up again as halftime approached, and Suhair, Bormus and Alex Lima went into the referee’s book.
The second half resumed with ATK Mohun Bagan on the attack.
In the 49th minute, Ashiq made a darting run down the field from the left, sliding in Petratos. The Australian forward volleyed the ball past Kamaljit as his effort went straight into the upright and was cleared immediately.
ATKMB were on the front foot as they drove bodies forward to score from corners but in the 61st minute, EBFC struck a surprise counter-attack with Clayton and Jake Jervis scoring. Jarvis was played in behind by Clayton as his sliced shot went well wide.
Slavko Damjanovic scored the most impressive touch of the game in the 68th minute.
Manveer flicks Petratos to the corner with a back heel. The ball fell to Slavko as he tried to head it but his effort hit the post and fell at his feet as he fired it inches out. The Serbian happily received a yellow card for taking off his jersey.

Clayton also went into the referee’s book after his furious reaction to not being awarded a free-kick after going down from a Subhashish challenge.
The game came at a brisk pace as both the teams looked to be down on their luck, especially the East Bengal players.
Substitute Kiyan Nassiri missed a golden chance a minute earlier, but his shot went straight to Petratos, who slotted it home to double the scoreline in the 90th minute.
