ISL: Odisha, Chennai spoil slim semifinal hopes

Odisha FC and Chennaiyin FC dashed their semi-final aspirations after poor performances in a 2-2 draw in their Indian Super League match at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Wednesday.

Both teams had to win the game to keep their small chances alive, but the stalemate means they are still not out mathematically, but their chances of making the cut are gone.

Rahim Ali (2nd) opened the scoring for Chennaiyin, before Xavi Hernandez (18th) pulled back once for Odisha, before Jonathan Christian (51st) helped them advance in the second half . But Nerijus Valskis found the back of the net for Chennaiyin to ensure that their rivals didn’t get all three points.

Chennaiyin finished eighth with 20 points from 17 matches while Odisha finished seventh with 22 points from 17 matches.

Chennaiyin took the lead in the first two minutes as Rahim Ali tucked in a free-kick from Nerijus Valskis, which was initially blocked but fell on the striker, who was unmarked at the far post.
