Israel: Israel reports first case of monkeypox, others suspect – Times of India

Tel Aviv: Israeli officials say they have detected the country’s first case monkeypox In one person who had returned from abroad and was looking after other suspected cases.

Cases of smallpox-related disease have previously been observed only in people from Central and West Africa. But Britain, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the US, Sweden and Canada all reported infections, mostly young men who had not previously traveled to Africa. France, Germany, Belgium and Australia have also identified cases.
The virus originates in primates and other wild animals and causes fever, body aches, chills and fatigue in most patients. People with severe cases may develop rashes and sores on the face, hands, and other parts of the body.
