ISRO says Joshimath has sunk 14.3 cm in last 10 months check satellite images

Joshimath, which is the gateway to famous pilgrimages like Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib, and Auli, an international skiing destination, are facing a major challenge due to land subsidence.

In addition, the report mentions that a subduction zone resembling a typical landslide was identified (thinning at the top and fanning out at the base). The Taj of Dharatal is situated near Joshimath.ollie Road at an altitude of 2180 meters.

Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand High Court has asked the state government to prepare a robust plan for flood-hit Joshimath town in Chamoli district.

Hearing a PIL on the crisis, a division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Alok Kumar Verma directed the government to form a committee of independent experts to look into the matter.

The court said the committee should include Disaster Management Authority CEO Piyush Rautela and Executive Director, Space Applications Centre, MPS Bisht.

The bench said the committee will submit its report to the court in a sealed cover within two months.

The court also directed that an order banning construction activities in areas around Joshimath be passed immediately.

A total of 169 families with 589 members have been shifted to relief centers so far.

Joshimath and Pipalkoti have 835 rooms as relief centres, which can accommodate 3,630 people at a time.

interim assistance of So far Rs 1.5 lakh has been paid to 42 affected families.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that keeping in view the interests of the stakeholders, a committee would decide the market rate for the compensation to be given to the affected families in Joshimath.

A 19-member committee was formed on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, which will distribute interim assistance to the farmers. 1.50 lakh among each affected family and decide at what rate the compensation is to be paid.

On For which 1.50 lakh is being paid immediately to each affected family. The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand said that 45 crores have already been released.
