It took only 21 days for Goa’s third Covid wave to reach its peak. Goa News – Times of India

Panaji: While third wave Kovid-19 in Goa grew faster than the first two, it also reached peak In the shortest period, only 21 days. Earlier waves took an average of two months to reach their peak.
Soon after the third wave began on December 28, 2021, the state recorded the highest number of infections on January 19 this year at 3,936. The highest case positivity rate, 45.8%, was recorded on January 18, approaching the close of a second wave. , However, the similarities between the two waves end here.
inspired by delta versionThe second Covid-19 wave was prolonged, resulting in over 1.1 lakh new cases since its launch in mid-March last year. It reached a high on May 7, when 4,195 fresh infections were recorded in a single day.
The first wave began in June 2020, but peaked only three months later in September. Goa recorded 740 cases on September 12, the highest number in a single day of the first phase of the pandemic. As is evident, not only did the two earlier waves last longer, but they also took longer to plateau.
After the catastrophic start of the pandemic in 2020, when people experienced several harsh restrictions – the most stringent being a complete lockdown on activity – they were forced to wait until November of that year to see cases below 100. Subsequent months saw a daily average of 40-80 cases by mid-March 2021, which was the start of the second wave.
A similar pattern was observed after the second wave rebound, but with a slight variation. While infections dropped significantly after the May 2021 peak, only in October-November did the cases drop below 100.
November proved to be the thinnest month in terms of new infections, with between 20 and 40 cases per day. However, the daily average of cases did not drop below the 20 mark, except for one day.
An interesting aspect of the third wave was the rapid reduction of infections. The daily case count cascaded to less than 1,000 cases in the 10 days following the peak. From 910 cases reported on February 1, the number of single-day cases came down to below 300 in just 10 days, while the case positivity rate stood at 10.5%.
Fewer deaths were also recorded during the third wave as compared to the large tolls recorded during the earlier two bouts. Hospitalizations were also less. Health experts attributed this to an aggressive anti-Covid vaccination campaign, which they said has reduced mortality and hospitalizations.
Goa recorded over 280 Covid-19 deaths in the last two and a half months and 15,500 patients required hospitalisation.
Meanwhile, on Friday, four fresh Covid-19 infections and 13 recoveries were reported. Both the death rate and hospitalization have been zero in the last seven days.
