“It was dark all around again”: eyewitnesses recount the sinister scene of the Nepal plane crash

During a conversation with the Nepali newspaper ‘Kathmandu Post’, eyewitness Fantasy Sunar told that he was washing clothes in his stomach, when he saw a plane shining from the sky, looking towards him. “The plane tilted strangely and after a few moments I heard a loud bang, as if a bomb had gone off,” he said. Then I saw a dark haze from the Seti Valley.

The plane fell to the ground about 12 meters away from the house of Geeta Sunar, a local resident. Geeta, who narrowly escaped, said that if the plane fell even a little closer to her house, it would be a complete settlement.

Geeta told that where the plane crash took place, there was a lot of damage. They said that they were saved because the planes fell some distance away, otherwise the casualties would have been more. According to the Gita, there was fire on both sides of the Seti valleys and dead bodies were lying in mourning.

At the time of the incident, the children told that the screams of the passengers were heard from the falling plane, which was spinning fast in the sky. Sameer and Prajwal Periyar, 11, initially thought the plane was a toy, but when the plane came closer, they ran away.

Sameer said, “Because of the suddenness there was darkness all around. It seemed that the wheel would come and touch us under the plane.

Another eyewitness, Bainsha Bahadur BK, said that if the plane lands straight down, it falls down and then there is more damage.

The newspaper quoted him as saying, “Seven of the windows of the plane are intact, which makes us think that the passengers may still be alive.” But the fire spread in no time… He was very sinister.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), an Accord-72 aircraft 9N-ANC of Yeti Airlines took off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 10.33 am. While landing at Pokhara airport, the plane crashed on the banks of the Seti river between the old airport and the new terminal.

A total of 68 passengers and four crew members were on board the aircraft. There were foreign nationals on board, including five Indians, four Russians, one each from Australia, France, Argentina, Israel and two Koreans.

The search for the four missing people on board the plane that crashed on Sunday was resumed on Monday morning. Earlier the rescue operation was stopped on Sunday night.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Sunday directed security officials and all government establishments to carry out effective rescue operations after the plane crash.

The Prime Minister had called a jam meeting of the cabinet immediately after the plane crash.
