Moto Morini was originally founded in 1937 by Alfonso Morini in Bologna, Italy. By the late 1940s and ’50s, the Moto Morini also began competing in racing events. In fact, Italian motorcycle GP racing legend Giacomo Agostini began his racing career in 1961 on the Moto Morini Setabello “Short Rods”. In the early 1970s, Moto Morini launched the company’s first V-twin engine motorcycle, first with a 350 cc model, and later with a 500 cc model. By the early 1980s, dwindling sales and labor disputes plagued Moto Morini, and by 1987, the company was sold to Cagiva, which had also acquired Ducati a year earlier.
