Jaishankar discusses “important regional concerns” with US Secretary of State

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G20 summit amid growing international concern over China’s aggressive moves in the Indo-Pacific region.

Jaishankar tweeted along with a picture of himself, “A very good meeting with External Affairs Minister Antony Blinkian in Rome on the sidelines of the G20 summit. The meeting came amid growing international concern over China’s aggressive moves in the Indo-Pacific region.

Mr Modi is attending the summit at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi. Italy has presided over the G20 since December last year.

Earlier on Saturday, Mr. Modi seen talking With world leaders including US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the summit. President Biden hosted Prime Minister Modi at the White House on 24 September for the first in-person meeting.

The G20 is a major global forum that brings together the world’s major economies. Its members account for 80% of global GDP, 75% of global trade and 60% of the planet’s population.

The forum meets every year since 1999 and has included, since 2008, an annual summit, with the participation of the respective heads of state and government.

The Rome summit is being attended by heads of state and government from G20 member states, the European Union and other invited countries, and several international organizations.

The summit focused on the theme ‘People, Planet, Prosperity’, focusing on areas of recovery from the pandemic and strengthening global health governance.
