Pune: First consignment of 14 lakhs ZyCoV-D Vaccine dose may come soon MaharashtraState Health Department sources gave this information on Wednesday.
State Immunization Officer Dr Sachin Desai said, “Nashik and Jalgaon Maharashtra will be the first two districts to conduct ZyCoV-D vaccination. Both the districts were selected as pilot sites two months back. ZyCoV-D is a three-dose vaccine administered intramuscularly on Day 0, Day 28 and Day 56 through a painless needle-free system.”
Desai said around 14 lakh doses will be supplied to Maharashtra from the Centre, which is enough to cover 4.5-5 lakh people, given the three-dose arrangement. “Only adults who have not yet started their COVID vaccination program will get this vaccine,” Desai said.
A senior health department official said, “All the doses will be reserved for a specified number of beneficiaries as there is still no communication from the Center as to how many doses will be allocated to the states in future. Preventing any possibility For subsequent reduction, when the beneficiaries become due for their second and third shots, the entire initial lot shall be reserved only for those taking shots from the first lot.”
Another official said that Nashik and Jalgaon districts were chosen in view of their large number of beneficiaries, who have not yet started their immunization programme.
Jalgaon District Health Officer Dr BD Jamadar said, “The training for ZyCov-D has already started. We are waiting for more guidelines on its launch. In each state, a few pilot districts have been chosen to get the shot. Gaya, which includes Jalgaon and Nashik. In Maharashtra. Jalgaon may have been chosen because we had earlier (before the second wave) made a demand that if a new vaccine is launched, the district would be ready to administer it. This was at a point in 2021 when the supply of the vaccine was disrupted.”
