Jasprit Bumrah will reportedly join the Indian team’s training session on Friday evening.

Jasprit Bumrah has re-joined the India squad for the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Bumrah had left for home after his team’s opening fixture of the tournament for the birth of his first child.

However, the pacer has returned and will reportedly join his India teammates for a practice session on Friday evening. India will start their Super Four campaign on Sunday when they take on Pakistan.

Bumrah, who made his competitive return last month in Ireland, was part of India’s Asia Cup opener but the contest was impacted by rain with Pakistan unable to bat after being set 267 to win.

Bumrah wasn’t part of India eleven that faced Nepal in their second Group A fixture earlier this week. India went on to register a 10-wicket win to advance to the next round.

Bumrah had undergone a back surgery earlier this year and has missed a host of big ticket events during his absence from competitive cricket since September last year.

After undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, the 29-year-old made his comeback through a three-match T20I series in Ireland for which he was also appointed as the captain.

He oversaw a 2-0 series win with the third contest being washed out due to rain.

The ongoing edition of Asia Cup is being held in the one-day format and is one of the two series that Bumrah will have at his disposal ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup that starts from the first week of October.

India will play three matches in the Super Four starting with Pakistan on September 10 followed by Sri Lanka on September 12 before facing Bangladesh on September 15.

The top-two teams of this round will contest in the final for the title on September 17.

Meanwhile, there’s forecast of rain during India’s clash with Pakistan raising fears of a complete washout. There were reports on the Super Four leg and the final of the tournament being shifted to Hambantota earlier in the week due to fear of rain playing the spoilsport. However, the organisers have decided to stick with the original schedule.
