BCCI secretary Jay Shah was elected as the head of the ICC’s powerful Finance and Commercial Affairs committee at a board meeting where Greg Barkley was unanimously re-elected as the ICC’s chairman for a two-year term.
An ICC source told PTI on condition of anonymity, “Every member accepted Jay as the head of the F&CA committee. It is an equally powerful sub-committee apart from the ICC chairman (Greg Barkley). Is.”
How powerful is the position?
It also includes revenue sharing between member nations and various major sponsorship deals that the global body enters into throughout the year. The F&CA committee is always chaired by a member of the ICC Board and Shah’s election makes it clear that he will represent the BCCI on the ICC Board.
The post of F&CA chief used to belong to India during the N Srinivasan era, but during Shashank Manohar’s tenure as ICC President, the power of the BCCI would have dwindled considerably. In fact, during the tenure of the Committee of Administrators, there was a time when BCCI did not even have any representation in the F&CA committee.

Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was a member of the F&CA committee till last year. “India is the commercial hub of global cricket and more than 70 per cent of sponsorships come from the region. It is imperative that the ICC F&CA chair is always held by the BCCI,” an ICC source said.

As far as Greig is concerned, he too was elected unopposed after Zimbabwe’s Tawengwa Mukuhalani withdrew from the process.
Barclay said on his re-appointment, “It is an honor to be re-elected as Chairman of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their support.”
