JEE Main 2022 Day 3 Exam Analysis: Maths toughest, Chemistry some tough questions, Physics easiest, claim students

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2022 Students say that the maths test was the toughest of all the sections on the third day of engineering admissions. Whereas the Chemistry paper was of moderate level with “some tricky questions” and Physics was the easiest of the three. Overall, the students found the paper to be of moderate level.

“In terms of the order of difficulty – Mathematics was moderately difficult while Physics was the easiest of the three subjects. Overall, this paper was of moderate level according to the students,” said Ramesh Butlish, Head – FIITJEE, Noida.

In Mathematics, questions were asked from all the chapters with emphasis on conic sections and algebra. In Algebra, weightage was given to chapters like Vectors, Matrices, Probability, 3D Geometry, Complex Numbers. The students said that the maths paper involved lengthy calculations.

Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, AkashBYJU says that some good questions were intercepted sporadically. In the Mathematics paper, about seven questions were asked from Calculus, five from Coordinate Geometry, three to four from Vectors and 3D and at least five from Algebra. He said that almost all the topics were covered.

Chemistry paper was of moderate level. Physical chemistry was given more weightage as compared to inorganic and organic chemistry. The students said that there were some difficult questions in Polymers and Biomolecules. The numerical based questions were tough from Physical Chemistry. Inorganic chemistry mostly had NCERT questions.

Whereas Physics was the easiest paper and questions were asked from Electrostatics, Magnetism, Current Electricity and Modern Physics. Some numerical-based questions were lengthy but easy to calculate and some fact-based questions were asked from NCERT Class 12 chapters. Around five to six questions were asked from electricity and magnetism and a good number of questions were from mechanics, units and dimensions, and two questions from optics, waves and sound and modern physics.

There were total 90 questions carrying 300 marks in total. Each paper had 30 questions and consisted of 100 marks. All were multiple choice questions. Students will get four marks for each correct answer. There is no negative marking.
