JEE Main 2022 Day 6: Long calculations, tough questions, maths troubling engineering aspirants

While the maths paper was tough, the physics and chemistry papers ranged from moderate to easy level, the students said. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2022 Sixth day exam. Overall, the exam was of moderate level according to the students, however, the maths section involved some lengthy calculations and some questions were reported as ‘difficult’.

Every year in JEE Main, Physics usually comes up as the toughest question paper. This year, however, the math has been done Toughest of the three papers Since season 1 started. AakashBYJU National Academic Director, Engineering Ajay Sharma said, this time for the sixth day of session 1 exam, “Some students found the maths section difficult, as some questions involved lengthy calculations.” While some students said that “some of the questions” were “difficult”, Ramesh Butlish, head, FIITJEE Noida, said.

On Day 6, for Mathematics, questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on Calculus and Algebra. It includes chapters on the binomial theorem, permutation and combination sequences and series, as well as complex numbers. Calculus included questions on definite integrals, differential equations, continuity and differentiability and functions. Coordinate Geometry questions were also present in sufficient numbers.

Physics was of easy to moderate level. Questions were asked from electrostatics, magnetism, current electricity and modern physics, EM waves, laws of motion, semiconductors, rotational motion, kinematics, heat and thermodynamics. “The numerical based questions were easy. Some fact-based questions were also asked from NCERT Class 12 chapters,” said Ramesh Butlish.

For Chemistry, almost equal number of questions were asked from all the three branches. Questions were asked from chapters like Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry in Everyday Life and P-Block Elements. Some of the physical chemistry questions were considered difficult by a section of the students, and the inorganic chemistry questions were of moderate level, the students added.

There were a total of 90 questions in the exam and the total marks of JEE Main Paper-1 was 300 marks. All the three parts – Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, had 30 questions each. Section-I of the papers had 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with single correct answers and Section-II had 10 numerical based questions out of which only 5 were to be attempted. The marking scheme for the MCQs is plus four for the correct response. Negative marking of one mark applies for each wrong response, and zero, if not attempted. The total marks in each paper is 100.
