Jharkhand: 6 arrested for trying to burn woman on charges of witchcraft in Simdega Ranchi News – Times of India

Gumla: Six persons have been arrested for allegedly thrashing and setting a woman on fire for allegedly practicing witchcraft In Thethaitanger police station area in Kudpani Colony village simdega on Wednesday evening. The 60-year-old woman has been identified as Jhario DeviPolice said that 40 per cent suffered burns and he is being treated at Devkamal Hospital in Ranchi.
The attack took place when the victim was at her neighbor Florence Dundung’s house to attend a condolence meeting organized in memory of his wife. In the middle of the event, Florence with five other villagers – Silvius Dangdung, Ravi SorengAmrit Tete, Hemant Tete and Jyoti Tete – who was reportedly in a state of intoxication – accused the victim of practicing witchcraft, which led to the woman’s death. All the six assaulted him and then poured straw on him, poured kerosene and set him on fire.
During this, some other villagers who reached the spot informed the police.
Theittangar police station OC Kumar Indresh said, “Six accused – all in an inebriated state – were beaten up. Jhario And then set him on fire. Luckily we reached the spot on time and saved him. He is out of danger.”
