Amidst the political turmoil in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday met state Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey and discussed the further course of action. The meeting between the two leaders was held at the State Guest House and lasted for an hour.

In the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, the ruling coalition has 30 MLAs from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), 18 MLAs from the Congress and one from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The BJP has sought Soren’s disqualification for violation of Section 9(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which deals with disqualification for government contracts.

The clause states that “a person shall be disqualified, and so long as he has, in the course of his trade or business, entered into a contract with the appropriate Government for the supply of goods or for the performance thereof.” “any act done by that Government”.
