Jharkhand Police arrests BJP leader for torturing tribal help

Suspended BJP leader and retired IAS officer’s wife Seema Patra was today arrested by Jharkhand Police for torturing his 29-year-old tribal assistant Sunita. Police sources gave this information.

The now-suspended BJP leader was arrested after the Ranchi police last week rescued the woman from Patra’s residence on the basis of a tip-off from a government employee.

Jharkhand Police had recorded the statement of the domestic help before a magistrate after Patra was rescued from her house last week. Patra had allegedly kept the woman captive at his residence in Ranchi’s posh Ashok Nagar area for several years.

Seema Patra was suspended by the BJP after a video of woman Sunita narrating her ordeal went viral on social media with demands for Patra’s arrest.

Governor Ramesh Bais also asked DGP Neeraj Sinha on Tuesday why no action was taken against the suspended BJP leader. Members of various tribal organizations visited the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where the woman is undergoing treatment, and met her on Tuesday.
