Jharkhand: SIT formed to probe the death of Dumka girl Ankita. Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Jharkhand Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which will look into the case in which a teenage girl student was killed after a man set her on fire in Jharkhand’s Dumka district, an official said.
The SIT will be headed by the Superintendent of Police.
“An SIT has been constituted which will be headed by the Superintendent of Police. Considering the seriousness of the matter, supervision will be done by the Superintendent of Police. So far two accused have been arrested. Investigation is being done from every aspect,” said ML Meena , ADG Headquarters, Jharkhand Police said.

Ankita Singh of Class 12 was set on fire on August 23, after which she was admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Ranchi, where she died on August 28.
After the incident, the local people protested fiercely, after which Section 144 was imposed. One of the accused has been identified as Shahrukh who was arrested on August 23 and one Naeem alias Chhotu Khan was arrested on Monday.

The girl was set on fire for allegedly turning down an offer after which petrol was poured on her and she was set ablaze. The accused allegedly poured petrol from the window of the woman’s house when she was sleeping and set her on fire.
Ankita Singh was cremated on Monday morning.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday ordered the Dumka administration to provide assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the girl’s family members.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Soren also directed to take action against the arrested accused from the fast track court.
The Director General of Police has also been directed to give an early report on the progress of research by an officer of the rank of ADG in the said case.
Meanwhile, Soren on Monday assured punishment to the arrested accused “at the earliest” and also called for laws to “further strengthen the existing laws for such incidents”.
