Ahmedabad: Gujarat MLA jignesh mevani was sent to five-day police custody on Tuesday by Assam Court in one assault case Filed by a female police officer.

It is alleged that he along with senior police officers assaulted a woman officer going from Guwahati airport to Kokrajhar.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Mukul Chetia sent Mevani to police custody after he was produced before the court in the afternoon.
He was arrested on Monday in another case in Kokrajhar district, soon after he was released on bail.
Mevani, an independent MLA backed by the Congress, was first arrested on April 19 from Palanpur city in Gujarat, and brought to Kokrajhar for tweeting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Senior Assam Congress leaders, who led a march demanding Mevani’s release, were on Tuesday taken to a police station in Barpeta district before being released after a few hours.
District Superintendent of Police Amitabh Sinha said that no one has been taken into custody.
Congress MP Abdul Khaliq, who was one of the leaders detained at Barpeta police station, alleged that the BJP is “prepared to throttle the freedom of expression, which we cannot allow at any cost. Hum Mevani” demand his immediate release”.
