JNTU Anantapur student ends his life

Chanakya (19), a second year student of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, ended his life in the college hostel in the early hours of Thursday (January 5).

Anantapur Forest Town Circle Inspector I. Ravi Shankar Reddy said that the reasons for taking such a big decision could not be ascertained. He was a very bright student in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) first year securing a 9.8 GPA and seemed happy chatting with his roommates in the hostel on a Wednesday night. At 5.30 in the morning, he has sent the message of farewell to his friends ‘bye’.

According to his friends, Chanakya, who hails from Udayagiri in Nellore district, did not have any love affair, which makes him suspicious of this act. University registrar Chundupalli Shashidhar said there was no reason to believe it was due to ragging. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the college principal, warden and other officials immediately reached the hostel. Chanakya’s parents have been informed and they are likely to reach Anantapur by afternoon. The body has been shifted to GGH mortuary.
