Students at JNTUH, Hyderabad will be able to spend three years at JNTUH and two years studying in the USA with the introduction of five new BTech + Masters degrees

Students from Telangana will be given the chance to enrol in integrated double degree courses at prestigious American institutions, specialising in computer science, cyber security, and aerospace engineering, beginning with the next academic year, as reported by the Times of India. With the launch of five new BTech + Masters degrees, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) will enable students to dedicate two years studying in the USA and three years at JNTUH.

To provide the courses, the university has lately engaged in agreements with universities such as the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Stevens Institute of Technology, Milwaukee School of Engineering, University of Alabama and Lawrence Technological University.

Admissions prerequisites to these new courses are intended to be in line with the JNTUH norms, requiring a minimum of 70 per cent in the qualifying test which is the class 12 board exam or Intermediate results. Likewise, the marks from the JEE and EAMCET would also be taken into account during enrolment of candidates into these new double degree courses.

“Each of these programmes will only have 10-15 seats, and admissions will be based on Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) or Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMC-ET) scores,” stated Manzoor Hussain, registrar of JNTUH, as cited by the TOI. Hussain outlined the achievements of comparable partnerships with Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH), Sweden, for engineering students, and the two-year MBA course with Central Michigan University, USA, emphasising the advantages that students receive by choosing highly regarded universities.

Meanwhile, in June this year, under the new National Education Policy, students at various institutions around the nation will be permitted to pursue a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in two subjects concurrently starting in the new academic year 2023–2024. Students will be authorised to do interdisciplinary PhD research in two or more academic fields, according to the University Grants Commission (UGC). The new PhD regulations have been sent to all universities and other higher education establishments across the nation by the UGC. Admissions to universities will be made in accordance with new regulations.
