JNU issues fresh guidelines for office operations amid COVID-19 spike, allows 50 per cent attendance

In view of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi has issued fresh guidelines for its offices and staff member. Continuing with the restrictions imposed in the previous order, the university has suspended biometric attendance for all its offices and the attendance will be taken through physical marking by the heads of the respective departments or branches.

As per the guidelines, all officers of the level of Section Officer or equivalent grade or above have been asked to attend their office regularly. However, officers below the level of Section Officers or equivalent grade will work in a mixed environment. The order states that 50 percent of these officers will work from office and the remaining 50 percent will continue to work from home. The order said that all departments will follow the roster prepared by their respective heads to ensure that the required number of employees are present in the offices on a daily basis.

In addition, persons with disabilities and pregnant women are exempted from attending office for the month of February and will work from home. Employees who are not in the office will work from home and will be available for communication (telephonic or other electronic means) whenever the office requires their services.

To avoid overcrowding, all office timings will continue from 9 am to 5:30 pm and 10 am to 6:30 pm. Employees living in containment zones will work from home till they denotify the zone from zone. If an employee’s family member tests positive or goes for home isolation, they should inform the concerned authority along with necessary documentary proof.

The guidelines further ask the offices to opt for video conferencing instead of physical meetings. Apart from this, all other necessary COVID-19 protocols like wearing of masks, using sanitisers, regular sanitization and cleaning of offices will have to be strictly followed. Any person violating the restrictions mentioned in the order shall be liable to legal action as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
