JNU teachers raise concerns over CUET’s impact on university’s autonomy, students’ future – Times of India

New Delhi: Many teachers Jawaharlal Nehru University ,JNU) expressed concern over the recently held Common University Entrance Test ,CUET), calling it “chaotic, and irresponsible”, which emphasizes the erosion of the university’s autonomy.
In a press conference, JNU Teachers Association ,JNUTAThe delegates alleged that the CUET based system is causing irreparable damage to the democratic and participatory governance in the University besides causing irreparable damage in the field of teaching and learning for the present and future generations.
JNUTA teachers spoke about the highly adverse impact of CUET based admission system on the educational programs of JNU.
JNUTA said, “The existence of CUET has ensured that now no decision can be taken regarding admission within the university, thus effectively undoing the Parliament.”
Teachers also said that the test “clarifies the actions of the university”.
“With unsynchronized semesters, students from two intersecting semesters cannot opt for the full range of courses being offered at the university at that time! For programs whose curriculum or curriculum significantly depends on cross-listing of courses This has proved disastrous,” JNUTA added.
Speaking at the press conference, Professor Ayesha Kidwai said that JNU is a university that caters to poor students – almost half of our students are from rural India, from families earning less than Rs 12,000 per month, and women .
“The delay in admission to the universities participating in CUET has effectively hindered the education of these students. Among these students who will be dependent on university fellowships to sustain themselves and their families, the need for admission The shortfall may, in all likelihood, throw them out of the education system completely. In one stroke, the youth dividend, which we were often proud of, is wasted,” Kidwai said.
“JNU finds itself in such a disastrous situation, mainly because of the complete collapse of the statutory bodies of JNU, mainly because of the previous administration,” she said.
