The Isle of Man TT is back with new safety measures after a two-year break, and 23-time winner John McGuinness will return to mark his 100th race.

Twenty-three-time Isle of Man Tourist Trophy winner John McGuinness will compete in the 2022 Isle of Man TT, returning with Honda. McGuinness has rejoined Honda for the 2022 road racing season and will compete in both the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT. McGuinness will team up with British Superbike rider Glenn Irwin in both events. McGuinness left Honda’s road team in early 2018 after a crash at last year’s North West 200 that left him with multiple serious injuries. He has won several awards on the Honda Fireblade over the years, including 12 TT races on the CBR1000RR Fireblade with five Superbike and six senior race wins, as well as one Superstock win in 2012.

McGuinness has had the most success at IOMTT with Honda. He holds the title for the second-highest number of wins with 23 wins after Joy Dunlop’s 26.
In 2017, McGuinness teamed up with Guy Martin for Honda, but there were problems with the recently introduced Fireblade, which was believed to have caused a 2017 crash that left him with a serious leg injury , which barred him from running in early 2018. That was turned into an effort to regenerate the Norton factory. In 2019, he had an unsuccessful year riding both Norton and Honda bikes. He signed with the Kawasaki team in 2020 and 2021, but the race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Honda Racing UK team will compete in the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT races in both the Superstock and Superbike classes, as well as the Senior TT, which McGuinness won in 2015 on the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade. In 2022, McGuinness will mark his 100th Isle of Man TT race in the opening superbike race. With 23 wins in the Isle of Man, McGuinness has the second highest total of any TT racer.
