Jolt to opposition as SC refuses to entertain plea alleging ‘arbitrary use’ of central probe agencies

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea by 14 opposition parties led by the Congress seeking ‘arbitrary use’ of central investigative agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against opposition leaders. The allegation was made. A new set of guidelines governing arrest, remand and bail.

The Supreme Court refused to entertain a petition filed by 14 opposition parties, saying it “cannot lay down separate guidelines for politicians.”

The opposition parties have now withdrawn their petition after the Supreme Court refused to hear it.
