Journalist MP Prakasam passes away

Former journalist MP Prakasam, a well-known left-wing political activist in southern Kerala, died at his home in Vennala here on Thursday at the age of 89.

Born in Vayalar in 1932, he joined the communist movement at the age of 14 and was active in students’ bodies. He worked as a journalist Janyugam Dainik in Kollam and Ernakulam and in two districts were also members of CPI Zilla Parishad.

Sri Prakasam was elected Secretary and President of the Ernakulam Press Club in 1973 and 1986 respectively. He was a National Council Member of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) and retired from service in 1992.

His wife PN Dayabai retired as a teacher. The couple has three sons – MP Praveen (Chief Correspondent, Hindu, Kochi), Pramod, and Pradeep.
