Chief Justice NV Raman expressed disappointment that even after 75 years of independence, people have not understood the roles and responsibilities assigned to each institution by the Constitution.

In India, a party in power believes that every government action deserves judicial support and opposition parties expect the judiciary to advance their political positions and cause, but “the judiciary alone is devoted to the constitution and the constitution”. is accountable,” Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said on Saturday.

He also expressed disappointment that even after 75 years of independence, people have not understood the roles and responsibilities assigned to each institution by the Constitution.

“As we celebrate the 75th year of independence this year and when our republic turns 72, with some regret I must add here that we have still given to each institution the roles assigned by the Constitution and Haven’t learned to fully appreciate responsibilities.

He said that this flawed thinking of all colors flourishes in the absence of proper understanding among the people about the constitution and working of democratic institutions.

“It is the strongly publicized ignorance among the general public that is coming to the aid of such forces whose sole aim is to eliminate the only independent organ i.e. the judiciary. Let me make it clear. We are accountable to the Constitution and the Constitution alone.” , They said.

CJI Raman said that in order to implement the checks and balances envisaged in the Constitution, “we need to promote constitutional culture in India. We need to spread awareness about the roles and responsibilities of individuals and institutions. Democracy is for all.” It’s about participation”.

He quoted Abraham Lincoln and said, under the Constitution of India, it is the people who are entrusted with the task of pronouncing the ruling on the rulers once every five years.

“… the people of India have done their job remarkably so far. There should be no reason to doubt the collective wisdom of our people. Significantly, voters in rural India are more likely to do this work than their urban ones. more active, educated and well-to-do counterpart”, he said.

CJI Raman said that both India and the United States of America are known for their diversity, which needs to be respected and nurtured everywhere in the world.

“It is only because the United States respects and respects diversity, that you were all able to reach this country and make a mark through your hard work and exceptional skills. Please remember. This is the tolerance of American society. and inclusive nature that has enabled it to attract the best talent from across the globe, which in turn is contributing to its growth”, said CJI Raman while addressing the Indian diaspora.

He said that in order to maintain the faith of all sections of the society in the system, it is also necessary to honor the deserving talents from diverse backgrounds.

“This principle of inclusivity is universal. It needs to be respected everywhere in the world including India. Inclusiveness strengthens unity in society which is the key to peace and progress. We need to focus on the issues that unite us.” Let us not. Not on those that divide us. In the 21st century, we cannot allow small, narrow and divisive issues to determine human and social relations. We must focus on human development by all divisive issues. A non-inclusive approach is an invitation for disaster”, he said.

The CJI told the audience that they may have become millionaires and billionaires, but they need peace around them to enjoy wealth.

“Your parents should also be able to come back home and live in a peaceful society that is free from hatred and violence. If you cannot take care of the well being of your family and society back home, what about your wealth and status? What is the use here? You have to do your contribution to make your society better. What really matters is the respect and honor you get in your motherland. This is the litmus test for your true success”, he said.

The CJI said that the Indian diaspora in the United States has played an active role in building modern America from modest beginnings; He has not only changed his identity but also the face of this country.

The CJI said that highly skilled Indian professionals in diverse fields are found all over the world today, adding that the unprecedented opportunities given to women by the IT sector have changed the way women look at the role of women in Indian society.

Noting that more and more women of India found their wings in the emerging field, which helped them to become empowered, independent and self-reliant, she said that an empowered woman positively changes the dynamics of the family and society. “As they say, ‘If you empower a man, you empower a man. But, if you empower a woman, you empower a family and a nation.'”
