Safety and security will be crucial for the successful conduct of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup here at the Blue Turf at the Kalinga Stadium.

Host Odisha in association with Hockey India All the necessary preparations have been made for all the 16 participating teams including Pakistan, who are camping in the city of Bhubaneswar and getting ready to fight it out for the top honors in the tournament. Officials said on Tuesday that players and team officials are being hosted in a bio-secure bubble in view of the COVID-19 situation.

The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has made elaborate security arrangements for the mega sporting event, while the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) have decorated the city.

Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said that five ASPs, eight DSPs, 26 inspectors, 72 officers, 30 constables and about 20 platoons have been deployed for the event.

He said that the police would be present at the stadium gates and the inner perimeter as well as on the ground and they have been briefed about the safety of the players.

Priyadarshi said that since no spectators will be allowed into the stadium to watch the match, there is no pressure on the traffic system.

Speaking about the arrangements made at the place of stay of the teams, the Commissioner of Police said, “Safety of foreign teams especially Pakistan is our top priority. Police escort is being provided from the time the players reach the airport to their hotel and stadium.

Apart from this, adequate police personnel have been deployed in the hotels where the players are staying.

“I am sure this event will be successful as the Bhubaneswar Police has the experience of providing security arrangements during the World Cup, Champions Trophy and FIH Hockey Pro League,” the commissioner said.

Similarly, BMC commissioner Sanjay Singh said that the corporation is also cleaning the stadium and other places.

The walls of the city are decorated with paintings while the major streets have been colored with lights.

Compulsory COVID-19 test is being done every 72 hours for all the participants including team officials.

However, hockey lovers are in despair as there will be no spectators at the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
