Justice expected from EC: Sanjay Raut, says real Shiv Sena is under Uddhav’s leadership

Following the split last June, the factions led by former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and his successor Eknath Shinde are embroiled in a legal battle, each seeking recognition as the real Shiv Sena.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said that there is only one Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray and hoped that the party would get justice from the government. Election The commission is hearing pleas from two factions of the Shiv Sena, each seeking recognition as the “real” Shiv Sena.

Speaking to reporters, Raut said he trusts the Election Commission, though “independence and autonomy” are not observed in autonomous institutions.

The Election Commission will hear the petitions of Shiv Sena factions on January 12.

Following the split last June, factions led by former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and his successor Eknath Shinde are embroiled in a legal battle, each seeking recognition as the real Shiv Sena.

He said, ‘There is only one Shiv Sena. There is only one Shiv Sena founded by Balasaheb Thackeray and one led by Uddhav Thackeray. The entire Shiv Sena is with him.

He said that when the leader who won on the symbol of Shiv Sena has left (the party), it cannot be called a split.

“They will lose,” he said.

“We trust the Election Commission which is an autonomous and independent body. We have the example of TN Seshan (former Chief Election Commissioner). So far independence and autonomy have not been seen in these institutions. People in these institutions are appointed by the government. We are hopeful that we will get justice and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena will get justice.”

Shiv Sena’s 39 of 56 MLAs and 18 of Maharashtra’s 13 Lok Sabha MPs have aligned with Shinde, whose rebellion against Thackeray brought down the tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi government last June.
