“Though education is in the Concurrent List, in practice it is being treated as belonging to the Central List. The NEP was prepared without consulting the State Governments,” he added.
School Education Minister Ambil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said, the central government is trying to implement Hindi and Sanskrit and hereditary education policy (Kula Kalvi Thittam) through NEP 2020.
“NEP also proposes board exams for young students studying in classes III, V and VIII. There is no mention of the word reservation in the policy and it is against social justice,” Poyya Mozhi said.
Professor Anil Sadgopal, former member of the Central Advisory Board of Education, said that as per the National Higher Education Qualifications Framework (NHEQF), there is no room for the faculty members to channel their imagination, initiative and intuition.
“The NHEQF as envisaged by the NEP will decide what to do with them. All faculty members and students are slaves as there will be no freedom of thought,” he said.
V Vasanthi Devi, former vice-chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, said the entrance exam for all UG courses offered in the NEP would make higher education unaffordable for most people.
A resolution passed in the seminar asked the central government to stop the implementation of NEP 2020.
