The SIT, after analyzing the viral video of the incident, arrested the accused, identified as Manikandan, of Pusapadi village in Salem district. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court II at Kallakurichi and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.

Police sources said the search operation is on and the rioters are being identified through CCTV footage installed on the Salem-Chennai National Highway and toll plazas. Mobile phone numbers of persons involved in large-scale violence and riots were also being analyzed by tracing the cellphone networks around the campus.

Meanwhile, the police are also identifying those who left their two-wheelers in the premises of the private school during the violence. A total of 309 people have been arrested so far for their involvement in the riots in the school premises.
