Judge Michelle Williams Court said in court documents, “With no objection, the petition to change the name is granted.”

The petition, filed on August 24, cited “personal reasons”.

He has said this to himself on his social media pages over the years. He tweeted in 2018 that he wanted change, saying, “Formally known as Kanye West. I’m Yee.”

The moniker was also the title of his 2018 album. He has said in interviews that, as well as shortening his first name, he likes that it is a word used throughout the Bible.

The 44-year-old is in the midst of a divorce with Kim Kardashian West, who didn’t ask that her last name be changed to just Kardashian when she filed to separate from him in February. The couple’s four children also have their former surname.
