If there is one person who has consistently been the flag bearer of controversies in recent times, it is Kanye West. After his split from Kim Kardashian, he managed to stay in the news through his interviews and social media posts where he attacked Kardashian. And now, his latest post has left his fans furious. As fans eagerly await the release of his new record Donda 2, which is the sequel to his previous Donda, West made an announcement on social media that put an end to their anticipation. The 44-year-old rapper said the record would only be available on his own £200 platform – Stem Player – as he revealed plans to rip off other streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and Amazon.
West also gave a lengthy explanation as to why the music would be available exclusively on their platform Stem Player, believing it would free artists from the ‘oppressive system’. However, most fans of his music were not convinced by his explanation and saw it as an opportunity to grab cash rather than a statement about the rights of musicians. Furthermore, the Stem Player is a device that costs £200 ($200 in the US) and most were not prepared to spend that much money for a Donda 2.
One fan wrote, ‘And just like that I can’t listen anymore,’ while another tweeted: ‘Looks like I’m going to buy a $200 stem player for an album?’ Another joked that he couldn’t afford a Stem player until West was paying his rent, while another said the development made it too easy for him to ignore West.
DONDA 2 only on Stem Player? Fat Kanye Lee
I’m not trying to carry a ball of clay to listen to the album. Pardon me.

Hey man when DONDA 2 comes out, you better leak on YouTube or something. I don’t get $200 for a stem player unless Kanye is paying my rent — Dre Baxter (@DraeBaxter) February 18, 2022
I’m glad Donda 2 is only available on his STEM player thing. It makes it easy for me to ignore Kanye’s new music and him completely.—Jesse (@JesseBlueYellow) February 18, 2022
West later responded to the backlash in another post.
West also referred to Jay Z in another post, saying he was also attacked by “fake media” when he brought the streaming service Tidal.
West has been on social media since his split with the Kardashians and has expressed his displeasure over the situation several times, mostly for not being allowed to meet his children. Just a few days ago, West leaked screenshots of a private conversation with Kardashian, for which he received backlash.
