Karnataka: 3.6 magnitude earthquake hits Gulbarga

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) informed on Tuesday morning that an earthquake of 3.6 magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded in Gulbarga, Karnataka at around 8 am.

“Earthquake of magnitude: 3.6, occurred on October 12, 08:06:27 IST, Latitude: 17.36 & Long: 77.30, Depth: 5 km, Location: Gulbarga, Karnataka,” NCS tweeted.

Two days ago, an earthquake of magnitude 3.0 was recorded in Kalaburagi on Sunday. The earthquake was felt at 6.05 am, 2 km northeast of Kodadur in Kalagi taluk of Kalaburagi district.

“As per the seismic intensity map of the said earthquake from the epicenter, the observed intensity is low and the earthquake can be felt up to a maximum radial distance of 7-12 km,” the KSNDMC statement said.

Reports said that there was no loss of life or property. The KSNDMC said that these types of earthquakes do not cause any damage to the local community, although there may be minor tremors at the local level. It added that there is no need to panic as the intensity observed is low and not destructive.

On October 1 and October 5, mild tremors of 2.5 to 2.9 magnitude were felt near Basavakalyan in Vijayapura. The area where the tremors were felt is close to Latur and Killari, where a massive earthquake occurred in September 1993.

Manoj Rajan, commissioner of the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority said PTI There were many reasons behind the tremors, but there is no need to panic as these were mild tremors.

However, he added that there will be a brainstorming session with prominent geologists very soon on the seismic activities in the region. Deputy Director of Mineral Administration Dr Lakshmimma said that the authorities are already on alert since the earthquake.

He told PTI, “KSDMA officials are already alert on this issue and studying the incident. We have directed senior and junior geologists in our department to find out whether there is any reference to geological events in the past.” There is a disturbed area.” .

Lakshmimma said there is a need to create awareness among the people to minimize the damage in the event of a major seismic activity and added that she would soon speak to the KSDMA officials in this regard.
