A health official said 69 people, including 59 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, have tested positive for COVID-19 and all are asymptomatic. “We had conducted tests on 457 people in JNVs here, out of which 59 students” and 10 staff tested positive for COVID-19. They are asymptomatic but we have isolated them,” District Health Officer Dr SN Umesh told PTI.

The test reports of those who were tested have come and only 69 have been found infected, the official said. Umesh also said that the teaching and other staff in JNVs have been vaccinated.

According to sources in the district authorities, the school has been temporarily sealed and doctors and paramedical staff have been deployed there. He said that the rooms are also being sanitized. Schools and colleges in the state, especially residential, are witnessing a spurt in COVID-19 cases. However, the severity of infection and death is almost zero at these places as most of the students and staff are asymptomatic.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had recently said that COVID-19 cases are showing up in two types of clusters – one are schools and colleges, and the other are residential apartments.
