Karnataka asks education department to report on activities of madrassas: Source – Times of India

Bengaluru, September 30 (IANS) Government of Karnataka On Friday, the education department was directed to submit a report on the activities of madrasas in the state, which sparked controversy.
According to sources, the education department has started this exercise amid demands by Hindu organizations to ban madrasas in the state.
It is alleged that suspicious activities are going on in madrasas.
The government has asked the department to submit a report about 960 madrassas in the state.
A committee has been constituted under the leadership of the Commissioner of Education Department, which will give a detailed report on the activities of madrasas.
BJP Insiders said that after the report is submitted, a decision will be taken whether to ban madrasas or bring them under the jurisdiction of the education department.
BJP insiders said that the ruling BJP in Karnataka is contemplating to take action on madrassas on the lines of the Uttar Pradesh government in relation to madrassas.
