Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has accepted defeat

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state has not been able to fulfill its goals, and the party will conduct a thorough examination after the results are declared. As a national party, it will analyze the results and identify any shortcomings or weaknesses at various levels, he said.

The party will accept the election result and use it as an opportunity to learn, according to CM Bommai who said that the BJP will “restructure the party and come back” for the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka 2023.

CM Bommai said, “We take this result in our stride.”

As votes were being counted for the Karnataka state assembly election, the Congress party was leading in 117 seats, while the BJP was leading in 75 seats, according to trends by the Election Commission of India. The election was seen as a crucial test for both the parties ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections.

There were early celebrations at the Congress headquarters in Bengaluru and Delhi as they edged closer to victory in the crucial southern state. BJP leaders, on the other hand, were hoping to break Karnataka’s 38-year stranglehold of not voting for the incumbent but were facing the prospect of a loss.

The trends for all the 224 seats in the state were known by 11 am, with the Congress leading with 117 seats, one notch ahead of the magic number of 113, while the BJP was eyeing 75 seats. The Janata Dal-S (JD-S) was expected to be the kingmaker and was leading in 25 seats.

While many in the BJP said it was too early to announce elections, Congress leader Siddaramaiah said, “Congress will win with more than 120 seats” and his colleague Pawan Kheda said, “We will come back.” with an overwhelming majority. This is a message for BJP. Please stick to issues that pertain to the everyday life of India and don’t try to divide India.”

Shama Mohammed, another Congress leader, attributed the possible victory to the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Kanyakumari to Kashmir campaign, led by Rahul Gandhi, which traveled nearly 3,000 km in three months.
