An Indian student was killed in shelling in Kharkiv on 1 March. The student has been identified as Naveen S Gyangoudar of Chalgeri, Karnataka.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the student’s death by tweeting.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai condoled the death of the student and spoke to his father Shekharappa Gyanagoudar over phone. He assured the bereaved family to approach the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure that Naveen’s mortal remains are found by the family.

Mr. Gyangoudar recalled his telephonic conversation with Naveen earlier in the day. He used to talk to his son at least thrice a day.

Sanjay Shettinevar, Deputy Commissioner of Haveri district, has sent a team to Chalgeri village of Ranebennur taluk in the district.
