Karnataka Congress deletes tweet against PM, accuses “newbie”

Karnataka Congress had made a personal attack on PM Modi in a now-deleted tweet.

Congress in Karnataka has removed a tweet labeling Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “”.thumb printing“Or illiterate, expressing regret for a “rude tweet” posted by a “newbie social media manager”.

Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar, withdrawing from the party’s controversial post, last night admitted that he lacked “civil and parliamentary language” in political discourse.

Shivakumar tweeted, “I have always believed that civil and parliamentary language is a non-negotiable pre-requisite for political discussion. A rude tweet by a novice social media manager via the official Twitter handle of Karnataka Congress is regrettable and has been withdrawn.”

Karnataka Congress had made a personal attack on PM Modi in a now-deleted tweet.

“Congress built schools but Modi never went to study. Congress made learning plans for adults as well, Modi didn’t learn there either. Those who chose to beg, even though begging was banned, are today asking citizens to beg. The country is suffering because of “#angoothachhaap modi”, the party’s handle tweeted in Kannada.

BJP’s Karnataka spokesperson Malavika Avinash said, “Only the Congress can stoop so low” and added that the comment was not even worth responding to.

The tweet emerged in a heated war of words between the BJP and the Congress for the high-stakes by-elections to the two assembly constituencies on October 30.

For the ruling BJP, winning the bypoll is crucial – the first electoral test for Basavaraj Bommai, who replaced BS Yediyurappa as chief minister.
